As far as past years were concerned, this one was a light one regarding end-of-season managerial changes. Seattle was the lone team to fire a manager after the 2026 campaign, letting go of Dan Wilson after a short tenure.

Wilson out as Mariners manager

The Mariners made it official on September 28, as manager Dan Wilson was fired as club manager after one plus season with the club. Additionally, Seattle decided to make wholesale changes to the coaching staff. Kevin Seitzer, Eric Young Jr., and Manny Acta were among the coaches who will not be retained for next season.

Wilson was brought in mid-season in 2025 to replace Scott Servais. At the time, the Mariners were in a tenous spot but Wilson righted the ship. Seattle made the 2025 MLB Postseason and wound up finishing one game shy of the club’s first World Series berth.

However, the Mariners’ 2026 season did not go as planned. Seattle, arguably the favorite to win the division, saw steep offensive declines from Josh Naylor and, to a certain extent, Cal Raleigh. The club finished with a 76-86 record, and were eliminated from contention during the final week of 2026.

That was it as far as managerial dismissals were concerned. A far cry from what happened after 2025, when Bruce Bochy and Ron Washington were ousted after last year. Several teams, the Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies all made moves in-season.

In Boston and New York’s case, both teams retained their interim managers for 2027.

There’s also the curious case of Kurt Suzuki, who was hired on a one-year deal last year by the Angels. But with a new head man atop the Angels’ front office, we’ll see what happens there.
