When Sony San Diego first revealed new features in MLB The Show 25, one of the most notable ones was a tabletop-like experience called Diamond Quest. Diamond Quest is a single-player mode where Diamond Dynasty players can take down MLB teams and bosses to obtain rewards, like packs and even Diamond player items. Here’s what you need to know about the new mode and how it works.

The Goal

Simply put, the goal in Diamond Quest is to discover every square on the board. Once one moves to a new square, it will be marked in brown. Squares one hasn’t been on yet will be marked in green.

Diamond Quest rewards

Upon full completion of the board, one will receive a chest of accumulated rewards. These can range from packs, to even player reward items.

The Board

Each Diamond Quest board in MLB The Show 25 will be randomized, in terms of challenges within it. However, all will have the same components.

Diamond Quest board

The ‘DQ’ icon is where you are situated on the map. You can move in each turn by pressing Y/Triangle to roll the dice. The number that comes up on the dice roll indicates how many times you can move on that specific turn.

The baseball with the flames and mouth is the ‘Zone Sweeper.’ I’ll get into that in a second. The two stadium icons are for the Stadium Challenges.

Challenges

Aside from the Stadium Challenges, one will also come across random Moments and/or Showdowns on the board. Each follows a similar pattern, and it’s worth noting one could face the exact Moment or Showdown multiple times in a map.

Diamond Quest moment

These are optional, meaning you can choose to forfeit and bypass this to get to the Stadium Challenges faster. But, there are benefits — not perks, per se — to completing these mini-challenges.

How Perks work

Much like in Showdown, there are Perks in Diamond Quest. Perks offer unique power-up boosts, to either fielding, hitting, or pitching. These are extremely valuable, especially since A) Perks stack on top of another and B) can be difference-makers on higher difficulties.

Here’s how Perks can be obtained:

  • Successfully completing a challenge
  • Rolling a 6 with the dice
  • Buy Perks from Coach with Peanuts
  • Random board rewards
Perks in Diamond Quest

Peanuts are a form of currency that can be earned from mystery squares found throughout the board. There will also be boards where ‘Coach’s Cart’ will be opened up to buy Perks. And remember, the higher the rarity (i.e. Diamond is better than Gold), the better the Perk.

There are also Penalty perks in Diamond Quest. Penalties can be acquired either by rolling a 1 on the dice or by failing to complete a mini-challenge. These penalties can include fielding downgrades, exit velocity nerfs, etc. However, these don’t last long. Generally speaking, a Penalty only lasts one game, Moment, or showdown.

Additionally, Penalty Perks can be given to the player by the Zone Sweeper.

The Zone Sweeper

As mentioned earlier, the Zone Sweeper is the baseball icon on the map. This is a mini-boss in the mode, as the Zone Sweeper can challenge the player in a Legend-difficulty game.

Lose to the Zone Sweeper, and one will receive additional penalties. However, win, and you can receive better-than-usual rewards. Rewards can range from packs to Perks.

There is no guarantee the Zone Sweeper will challenge you in Diamond Quest.

Stadium Challenges

Each board includes Stadium Challenges. In Stadium Challenges, one will have to face an MLB team in a three-inning matchup, much like Conquest. You’ll also be able to choose the difficulty, which I’ll get to in a minute.

Successfully win a Stadium Challenge, and one will receive a guaranteed MLB The Show 25 pack.

There will also be special packs, like Ballin’ is a Habit packs or player items, that can be obtained when a Stadium Challenge is completed. However, whether one gets the ‘Rare’ or ‘Epic’ rewards depends on a few factors.

Diamond Quest odds

One is the difficulty. The exact odds will depend on the specific challenge. However, the important thing to note is that the higher the difficulty, the better the odds are to get a high-end reward.

Second, there are the bonuses from the aforementioned Moments and/or Showdowns. Each Moment or Showdown successfully completed will yield at least a 3% boost towards the odds, and as high as 6%. On the other hand, those who skip or forfeit these challenges will receive downgraded odds.

Can you get eliminated in Diamond Quest?

Yes. Lose a Stadium Challenge, and all progress will be wiped. You’ll lose the map.

Can a board be retried?

Yes.

Can you abandon a board, or save a board to do later?

Yes to both questions.

Tips

Realistically, the goal should be to do the Stadium Challenges last. Do all the mini-challenges first to boost the odds of getting better rewards. Follow that advice, and you won’t have to worry about playing on Legend or G.O.A.T. to guarantee rewards.

And, make sure to use as many high-end players as possible, especially ones who count towards themed Program progress. Because, PXP can be earned in Diamond Quest.
