Now that the 2025 MLB regular season is over, we have a complete look at teams that were the best (and worst) at avoiding strikeouts. Out of the teams with the fewest number of strikeouts this season, three made the playoffs. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, the Angels — a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 2014 — led the league in said category.
Most Team Strikeouts in 2025
| Rank | Team | Strikeouts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Angels | 1,627 |
| 2 | Rockies | 1.531 |
| 3 | Yankees | 1,463 |
| 4 | Orioles | 1.457 |
| 5 | Tigers | 1,454 |
At the top of the list this season were the Angels, a team that had four players in the top-50, in terms of most strikeouts: Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, Jo Adell, and Zach Neto.
Los Angeles (AL) finished, overall, with the second-highest team Whiff% (28.6%) in the league. The only team with a higher total rate was the Rockies, who finished with the second-most strikeouts. Two of the league’s biggest aggressors, in terms of strikeouts, were on the Rockies this season: Ryan McMahon and Jordan Beck.
McMahon struck out a lot with the Rockies, and a lot with the Yankees (39.0% K%) after he was acquired in late July. The Yankees ranked third on the list.
Baltimore and the Tigers rounded out the top five. Riley Greene, the AL league leader in strikeouts (201), set a new career-high on that marker this season.
The Mariners had three of the top 10 players in the league in total strikeouts: Eugenio Suarez, Randy Arozarena, and Cal Raleigh (Suarez, though, didn’t join the team until July). However, the Mariners were not in the top — or bottom, depending on how one looks at it — five of the league.
(Seattle finished with the sixth-most strikeouts (1,446)).
Fewest Team Strikeouts in 2025
| Rank | Team | Strikeouts |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | Royals | 1,096 |
| 29 | Blue Jays | 1,099 |
| 28 | Padres | 1,161 |
| 27 | Marlins | 1,247 |
| 26 | Brewers | 1,266 |
To little shock, four of the five best teams in terms of putting the ball in play had the fewest amount of strikeouts. And, all five teams here were in the top six in terms of team whiff rate. Only the Cubs, with the fifth-best Whiff% at 23.6%, didn’t make this list.
The Royals didn’t have a single player on their team with more than 125 strikeouts this season. Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. both topped the team with exactly 125.
Toronto, Miami, and the Padres, meanwhile, had multiple hitters on their rosters who put the ball in play with regularity.
Ernie Clement, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. all had strikeout rates lower than 15% this season. San Diego’s roster had three-time batting champion Luis Arraez, while the Marlins’ lineup included switch-hitting infielder Xavier Edwards. Edwards struck out just 88 times over 619 plate appearances.
