On October 2, Dane Dunning, Alexis Diaz, Jarred Kelenic, and Sandy Leon all declared free agency. The four were outrighted off the Braves’ 40-man roster.
It’s an eclectic group of Minor Leaguers, headlined by several notable names. One of them is Triston McKenzie, who dealt with myriad injury troubles in 2023 and made 24 appearances with Cleveland between 2023 and 25. He was DFA’d and outrighted to Triple-A during the 2025 season.
Dane Dunning was an innings-eater for the Rangers in 2023, the year Texas won the World Series. Atlanta acquired Dunning midseason for pitching depth.
Another is Jose Siri, who was designated for assignment over the final week of the year. Siri should garner attention, given his tools. He missed most of the year on the IL but had just two hits for the Mets after he was acquired last winter. It didn’t help that Siri had several fielding miscues in the field.
However, perhaps the most notable is Jarred Kelenic, the Mets’ first-rounder from 2018. Kelenic was traded as part of the Edwin Diaz deal back in 2018. Despite moving quickly up the Minors, he didn’t have much success at the MLB level until 2023. That season, he posted a career-best .746 OPS.
The Braves acquired him two years ago. However, he didn’t hit in a platoon role and fell out of favor. He only received 65 plate appearances at the MLB level this season.
Alexis Diaz, meanwhile, gave up eight earned runs over 11.2 Major League innings after he was traded by the Reds to Los Angeles in May.
These players were able to elect free agency in compliance with the current CBA.
