We’re nearly halfway through August, the final full month of the 2025 Minor League season. But while summer is slowly inching to its conclusion, there’s still plenty of action to talk and write about across the Minor League landscape. Here’s a look at what went down in Week 20 of the 2025 MiLB campaign.

Basallo continues to rake

Orioles catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo had another impressive week at the dish for Norfolk (AAA). Basallo hit .389/.421/.889 (1.310 OPS) with two home runs and an International League-high 12 RBI.

Among qualified hitters in the International League, Basallo is first in slugging percentage (.612), thanks in large part to 23 home runs.

Basallo would make sense to be a call-up in the near future. However, it’s more complicated than just promoting a player. After all, GM Mike Elias recently told the media that “I think we have to be aware of the rules and, in general, systems that are in place that benefit players and benefit organizations.”

This would likely be about the PPI rule, which could net the Orioles an additional pick should Basallo win the Rookie of the Year or finish top-three in the MVP vote during his pre-arbitration years. Since a player loses rookie eligibility with either 45 days (60 days is the cutoff, however, for PPI) on the active MLB roster or 130 at-bats, there’s a tight rope to walk.

More 2025 Draft picks move to full-season ball

More 2025 MLB Draft picks are moving to full-season ball to get work in before the year ends. Here’s a look at notable names who’ve moved up:

• Guardians: OF Nolan Schubart (3rd) – Low-A
• Tigers: OF Nick Dumesnil (8th) – Low-A
• Pirates: 1B Jared Jones (9th) – High-A
• Red Sox: INF Henry Godbout (2nd) – High-A
• Yankees: INF Kaeden Kent (3rd), INF Core Jackson (5th) – High-A, Dax Kilby (1st) – Low-A

Promotions & moves

As noted on August 11 here, there were several major promotions to Triple-A. However, those were not the only notable players to move up.

One beneficiary of said promotions was A.J. Ewing, the former second-round pick of the Mets who was promoted to Double-A Binghamton. Ewing, a pesky player with great contact skills and speed, hit .288/.387/.388 (.775 OPS) with Brooklyn.

Two notable second-rounders from 2024 also moved up.

Ryan Sloan, who struck out 77 over 70.2 IP with Modesto (A), was officially promoted to Everett (A+) on August 10. Twins pitcher Dasan Hill, who spent all of 2025 thus far in Fort Myers (A), moved up to High-A.

Hill struck out 68 over 52 innings with Fort Myers before the promotion. The stuff is still raw, and Hill had problems with walks (33) during controlled performances. However, he can gas it up to the mid-90s with his fastball and showed promise with a biting curveball that had a 51.6% Whiff%.

• OF Homer Bush Jr. (AA/TB): .522 AVG, 10 SB over six games
• P Luis De Leon (A+/BAL): 12 K, 0.00 ERA over 6 IP
• INF Konnor Griffin (A+/PIT): 10 H, 11 RBI over six games
• C Ariel Armas (A+/CHN): 14 H, 11 RBI over six games
• P Josh Hartle (A+/CLE): 11 K, 0.00 ERA over 9 IP
