For those who didn’t play MLB The Show 22 or 23, Road to the Show is a bit different, at least in terms of the available functionality. For those new or returning to The Show, here’s our comprehensive MLB The Show 24 Road to the Show guide, including how to create an avatar, how to upgrade players, and other pertinent information.

How to create a Road to the Show ballplayer

To create a Road to the Show ballplayer, select ‘Road to the Show’ at the Main Menu and select ‘More Options.’ Then, select ‘Start New.’

Players can create either a male or female avatar, and then choose to be simply a position player, two-way player, or pitcher. Each has its unique ‘position focus,’ which is simply an archetype that defines what strengths a player will have. Here’s a breakdown of each archetype:

Position Player

  • Power: Focus on power-hitting
  • Contact: Focus on making contact
  • Field: Focus on elite fielding

Pitcher

  • Velocity: Starting Pitches are 4-Seam, Changeup, and Slider
  • Break: Sinker, Circle Change, Curveball
  • Control: 2-Seam, Splitter, 12-6 Curveball
  • Knucksie: Knuckleball, Changeup, Curveball

Two-Way Player

One Position Player and Pitcher archetype,

From there, choose a primary position. But be warned, one can’t change a position unless receiving a call from an agent. However, this is at random and is not guaranteed to show up.

Since Ballplayers are now separated from Diamond Dynasty, one can’t use a created player in that mode. Thus, one could theoretically get creative and play positions not normally used, rather than pick a position that could fill a need in Diamond Dynasty.

Can you choose a team in Road to the Show?

Yes, players can choose what team to play on.

During the pre-draft process, the agent should ask what team you prefer to play for.

Can you create multiple Ballplayers in MLB The Show 24?

Yes, MLB The Show 24 players can create multiple Ballplayers.

How to use a Face Scan

To use a Face Scan in MLB The Show 24, download the MLB The Show Companion App. Log in with console information and select ‘MLB The Show 24.’

Select the ’24’ icon at the bottom-right of the screen and select the ‘Face Scan’ tab. Agree to the terms and then give the app permission to access the device’s camera. Scan the face and then go to the creator to download the scan. This can be done at any time in the save file.

How to change animations

To change batting and pitching animations in Road to the Show, go to the profile and the ‘Appearance’ section. Select ‘Motions & Sounds’ to change the animations.

It’s most important to choose animations that one is comfortable with. For example, if you struggle with players who stand close to the plate, don’t choose a default stance for Willie Mays or someone similar.

On the contrary, if you like throwing out of the stretch, choose a windup like Corbin Burnes or a similar one.

As for our personal preferences, let’s start with pitching. Choose a fluid pitching motion that’s not too fast, since Pinpoint Pitching is somewhat buggy this year when it comes to pitchers who have very fast windups out of the stretch.

For hitting, it’s hard to go wrong with batting stances like Yordan Alvarez, Rafael Devers, or Brandon Nimmo. These are our preferred stances.

How to upgrade in Road to the Show

Let’s get into arguably the most important of our MLB The Show 24 Road to the Show guide: upgrades.

Upgrading Road to the Show ballplayers in MLB The Show 24 works similar to how it did in past years. Once selecting an archetype and going through the creation process, one will need to grind in games, as well as perform Training exercises to upgrade.

Each time a user-created player gets a hit, depending on how hard the contact is, the Contact and/or Power rating should go up. The same applies to taking outside pitches (Vision), getting good jumps on pitches in the outfield (Reaction), and making accurate throws (Throwing Accuracy), among other stats.

Aside from in-game boosts, Training sessions also upgrade stats. These usually take place once a week, or whenever an off day hits. Here, one can choose from a series of mini-games, or automated exercises that boost base stats.

Each stat starts at a base stat of 30. The goal is to get it up to 50.

However, most of the upgrades come from the archetypes, as well as Perks and Equipment.

Each archetype comes with Skill Sets, which start at Bronze and end at Diamond. Bronze Skill Sets are the lower tier, while Diamond ones are the best and provide the best attribute bonuses.

To upgrade Skill Sets, one must complete Programs, similar to Other Programs in Diamond Dynasty. These can be completed by accumulating stats, like Hits or Putouts, to complete Missions.

At the end of each Program comes a Skill Set Pack. Open it and then equip the new, upgraded one in the ‘Overview’ section of the profile.

Perks can be unlocked in these programs, as well. Additionally, Perks can be purchased in the Diamond Dynasty marketplace.

Up to four Perk slots are available. However, all four won’t be available right away. One must upgrade Skill Sets to get more slots.

As for Equipment, these items provide the most substantial upgrades, aside from the Skill Sets. However, these can be expensive to obtain. While one can complete Dynamic Missions in-game to unlock Equipment Choice Packs, the Marketplace is the least random place to obtain these.

Equipment can be changed in the ‘Appearance’ section of the profile.

How to get promoted in Road to the Show

Getting promoted in Road to the Show isn’t a straightforward process. This is because there are several factors that could play a role.

The most important one is performance. For example, one of our created players hit 30 home runs — on Hall of Fame difficulty, for what it’s worth — over three months to get two promotions. However, this was as a center fielder in the Guardians organization, a team that didn’t have a high-rated center fielder.

Performance is the key here. However, other factors could come into play.

Can you get injured in Road to the Show?

Yes, user-controlled players can get injured in MLB The Show 24. While a player is injured, no training and/or games can be played until the injury is fully healed.

Negotiating contracts in Road to the Show

Much like in real life, contracts will be dictated by performance and team control. To become a free agent in Major League Baseball, one has to have six years of service time and no years remaining on an existing deal. That’s the case in MLB The Show 24.

Now, one could drive a hard bargain during the pre-arbitration and arbitration contract negotiations. However, this is not guaranteed to mean more dollars earned.
