MLB The Show 24: How Captains work in Diamond Dynasty

Captains cards, which were added to Diamond Dynasty in 2023, have returned to MLB The Show 24. These cards are special items in Diamond Dynasty, ones that can provide some hefty boosts. But, how do these cards work? Here’s what you should know.

How Captain boosts work

Much like in MLB The Show 23, Captains in MLB The Show 24 can upgrade cards that meet either a team or stat-based requirement.

Some Captains are team-themed, meaning those cards boost players from a specific MLB team. Or, a Captain can boost players of a specific height or weight, or has a specific attribute.

Also, be mindful that Parallels do not affect stat-based boost requirements. For example, the Season 1 Kodai Senga Cornerstone Captain — which boosts cards with under 65 BB/9 — can boost Corbin Burnes — who had a base card with 64 BB/9 — even if a Parallel pushes him out of that range.

How to assign a Captain

To assign a Captain in MLB The Show 24, go to the Lineup screen in Diamond Dynasty. Then, scroll to the left with the analog stick.

Here, players can see their active Hitting or Pitching Captain. If a Captain is in the lineup, press A (for Xbox) or X (for PlayStation) to assign that player as the Captain.

Also, be mindful that Captains must be in the starting lineup to activate the boost. This does not, however, apply for pitchers.

Are Captains Seasons-locked?

It depends on what type of Captain card it is.

Sony San Diego released Team-based Hitting and Pitching Captains at launch that were Core cards. However, there were also Cornerstone Captains, cards that were locked to just that season.
