In August 2024, reports indicated that Major League Baseball (MLB) will hold a speciality game in 2025 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bristol Motor Speedway is home to two NASCAR Cup Series races annually and has held numerous major sporting events, including two college football contests in 2016. Now, two Major League teams will contest a game at the track. Here’s a look at when the game will take place, plus the two teams that are scheduled to participate.

Per a report from the Associated Press, the 2025 MLB Bristol game will take place on August 2, 2025.

Participants

The Reds and Braves will be the participants.

The location could be considered the midpoint between the two teams. Per Google Maps, Bristol Motor Speedway is 272 miles north of Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s 306 miles south of Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

It won’t be the first time the Braves and Reds have played a neutral-site game in a different venue. Atlanta played the Marlins at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on July 3, 2016, a game the Marlins won 5-2. No Braves who suited up in that game and played remain on the team.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, has played a neutral-site game in recent memory. The Reds played in the 2022 Field of Dreams game against the Cubs. Current Reds starter Nick Lodolo started for the team on August 11, 2022, a game in Iowa. Lodolo struck out six but gave up four runs in 4.2 IP.

Many Reds from that 2022 team are no longer on the team. However, Lodolo, Jonathan India, and Alexis Diaz remain on the Reds as of 2024.

The Bristol game will be one of several speciality games in 2025. Major League Baseball will hold a two-game set in Japan in March 2025 to begin the season, between the Cubs and Dodgers.
