Here’s a look at the 10 players who were hit with the most pitches in baseball in 2022:

  1. Mark Canha (Mets): 28
  2. Andrés Giménez (Guardians): 25
  3. Willson Contreras (Cubs): 24
  4. Anthony Rizzo (Yankees): 23

Thairo Estrada, Kolten Wong, Brendan Donovan, Jonathan India, and Josh Harrison were also hit by 14 pitches in 2022.

The Mets had the second-best team OBP (.332) in baseball last season, and part of that was a result of hit by pitches. Mets hitters were plunked 112 times, by far the most in baseball. For reference, the Giants finished in second with 95. With that information, it’s not a shock that the Mets placed two in the top ten: returning center fielder Brandon Nimmo (16) and league leader Mark Canha (28).

Guardians infielder Andrés Giménez and new Cardinal catcher Willson Contreras round out the top three. Aside from Canha, Giménez, and Contreras, first basemen Anthony Rizzo and Ty France were the only other hitters that were hit 20 or more times in 2022.
