Now that the 2024 MLB season is near its end, we have a pretty good idea of which pitchers are in the running for the AL Cy Young Award. And right now, it appears it could be a runaway victory for an ace from Detroit. Here’s a look at player odds for the award, plus our power rankings and other information to be aware of.
Odds
Here’s a look at 2024 AL Cy Young odds, courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Tarik Skubal (-1000)
- Emmanuel Clase (+2000)
- Seth Lugo (+5000)
- Corbin Burnes (+5000)
- Cole Ragans (+8000)
Since June, Skubal moved from +170 on DraftKings Sportsbook to -1000 on BetMGM. He is the heavy favorite for the award.
Power rankings
Here’s a look at our September power rankings for the 2024 AL Cy Young Award:
- Tarik Skubal
- Emmanuel Clase
- Seth Lugo
- Corbin Burnes
- Cole Ragans
Yet again, Tarik Skubal remains #1 on our list.
Skubal is the likely, clear winner of this year’s Cy Young. The Tigers ace is on track to win the AL Triple Crown, assuming Jose Berrios and Seth Lugo don’t pass him in wins. Should that happen, Skubal would be the first Triple Crown winner in the Junior Circuit since Shane Bieber (2020).
Max Scherzer (2013) was the last Tiger to win the AL Cy Young.
Speaking of the Guardians, Emmanuel Clase also has a chance, although that’s not likely given what Skubal has done in 2024. While the Guardians closer isn’t averaging more than a strikeout per inning (63 over 69.1 IP), Clase notched a league-high 46 saves and owned a 0.65 ERA as of September 18.
If Clase were to win, he would be the first reliever to win the Cy Young since Eric Gagne (2003).
When is the AL Cy Young Award winner announced?
The AL Cy Young Award winner is traditionally given out every November, after the conclusion of the postseason.
Why can’t I bet on the AL Cy Young Award winner?
Some states do not allow betting on awards-based props. One example of this is New York, although there has been a push to end this in the Empire State.
