The sixth week of the 2024 fantasy baseball season will be the first full one for May, and it comes amidst major moves and major injuries. So, which hitters are worth a look on the fantasy baseball waiver wire for Week 6? Here’s our picks.

Vidal Brujan

We start our Week 6 fantasy baseball hitter waiver wire list with Marlins infielder Vidal Brujan, who should be an immediate beneficiary from the Luis Arraez trade. Although not a power hitter, Brujan — who’s eligible for second, third, and short in Yahoo! leagues — posted five multi-hit games since April 26, including a three-hit night on May 3.

The one big knock on Brujan aside from power is that the Marlins infielder doesn’t have a strong track record in the Majors. However, Brujan was at one point a high-end prospect in the Rays’ system. In NL-only leagues, though, he could be a cheap source for hits and stolen bases.

Willi Castro

Injuries have been a focal point of fantasy baseball, as several big-name stars are out of action. Trea Turner joined that list on May 4, so which players could be a good replacement in the interim? How about Willi Castro?

Castro, playing third base with Royce Lewis out, has been sensational yet again for the Twins after a solid 2023. The 27-year-old already has three multi-hit games in May, can play multiple positions, and is an efficient base-stealer. Last season, Castro stole 33 bases and four in the 2024 campaign.

Esteury Ruiz

The A’s summoned Esteury Ruiz from his MiLB expedition in mid-April and it’s been a very different story for the young outfielder compared to 2023. Ruiz has chased less, whiffed more, and looking to drive the ball with authority. Despite a .470 OPS against righties, Ruiz is crushing lefties (1.111 OPS) and posted a strong 44.8% Hard Hit% as of May 4. That’s largely thanks to him pouncing on mistake off-speed pitches.

Available in nearly 50% of Yahoo! leagues as of May 4, don’t expect Ruiz’s power numbers to be this high for the remainder of the year, even though he’s looking to lift more balls in the air. Do, however, expect him to be a formidable source for stolen bases.

Blake Perkins

Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins hit four home runs over 168 plate appearances last season — but he’s already matched that total this season. Perkins, a key defensive player for Milwaukee thanks to his plus range in the outfield, is hitting .267 on the season and has three stolen bases.

With so many outfielders on the roster, Perkins didn’t figure to be a major factor heading into 2024. However, injuries to Christian Yelich, Garrett Mitchell, and now Joey Wiemer have thrust Perkins into the fantasy baseball conversation.

Connor Wong

We’ll end our Week 6 fantasy baseball hitter waiver wire list with Red Sox catcher Connor Wong. Wong, the lone piece from the Mookie Betts trade remaining in Boston, put up less-than-ideal numbers (9 HR, .673 OPS) last season. This season, though, has been a different story for the 27-year-old.

Wong’s made more consistent contact against fastballs, as his Whiff% rate on heaters is down almost 4% from 2023 and he owns a .406 AVG against those pitches. The Red Sox catcher hit nine home runs in 2024. This year, Wong has five home runs over 23 games (83 PA).
