After a wet day on the East Coast and a limited slate of games, things should be different on April 12. Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for April 12 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Tarik Skubal over 6.5 strikeouts (-135)
- Evan Carter over 0.5 hits (-175)
Tigers starter Tarik Skubal has been very good this season, as he struck out 15 batters over 12.1 IP this season. And dating back to August of last season, Skubal has struck out seven or more batters in nine of his last 10 outings.
Skubal will get the Twins on April 12, a team with the second-worst Whiff% (32.1%) rate in the league this year. The only team with a worse figure in that category than Minnesota is the A’s, good news given that Skubal struck out nine Oakland hitters last Friday.
As for our second pick, it’s been a tough start for Rangers OF Evan Carter. After a strong cameo in 2023, Carter is hitting just .189 with a .740 OPS, although the strikeout and chase numbers are quite good.
Carter, though, has at least one hit in four of his last six games. He’ll face J.P. France, whom Carter got two hits off of last weekend, and the Astros on April 12.
