Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for April 24 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Reynaldo Lopez over 4.5 strikeouts (-160)
- Bryce Miller over 4.5 strikeouts (-115)
The Marlins’ offense is just outside the bottom 10 in Whiff% (26.6%), yet in the middle of the pack in total strikeouts (197). It’s an interesting matchup for Reynaldo Lopez, who will look to keep the Braves rotation rolling, much like Bryce Elder and Max Fried did this past week against Miami.
Neither Elder nor Fried averaged at least a strikeout per inning against Miami but Lopez has in two of his first three starts. And, Lopez has hit the over 4.5 strikeout marker in all three.
Speaking of overs, Bryce Miller has struck out at least six batters in three of his first four starts this year. This is a tricky matchup for Miller, as he’ll face a Rangers team that doesn’t strike out a whole lot, nor miss. Entering the day, the Rangers owned the ninth-best Whiff% (23.3%).
However, Logan Gilbert struck out six Rangers over 6.2 strong innings on April 23. And, Texas’ offense has produced three or fewer runs in three of the last four games.
That’s not to say the Rangers offense will stay at that number the whole year; that’s highly doubtful. But, Miller — a pitcher who induces whiffs at a high rate — does have a good matchup here.
