Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for June 5 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Reds ML (-125)
- Jose Berrios over 4.5 strikeouts (-165)
The Reds have taken the first two games of their three-game series with the Rockies, Elly De La Cruz went deep on June 4 and Frankie Montas pitched excellent on that date, a day after Cincinnati put up 13 on Colorado. In the opening contest of the Reds-Rockies series, Jeimer Candelario and Tyler Stephenson went deep.
Right-hander Graham Ashcraft has been shaky of late, as the righty’s yielded three or more runs in his last five outings. However, all five of those outings were not easy affairs, as Ashcraft faced a patient Cubs team and the Diamondbacks and Dodgers twice.
Ashcraft does leverage a power sinker and keeps the ball on the ground, a good thing given the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field.
As for our second pick, Jose Berrios has struck out five or more batters in four of his last five outings. While Berrios only has 58 strikeouts over 74.1 IP and a low whiff rate, the Blue Jays righty does have a high chase rate and can often fool hitters with his slider and changeup.
The one game in the mentioned stretch above in which Berrios didn’t have five or more strikeouts was against the O’s, the team he’ll face on June 5. Still, we like Berrios in this home matchup.
