The MLB action will get going early on August 4, thanks to a 12:05 PM start time in Cincinnati. It’ll be a big day of baseball, given it’s Paul Skenes day in Pittsburgh and Aaron Judge continuing to march towards 50 home runs. But, what looks good as far as MLB bets are concerned for August 4? Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for August 4 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Joey Loperfido over 0.5 hits (-145)
- Paul Skenes over 6.5 strikeouts (-160)
- Braves -1.5 spread (-135)
We’ll start with Joey Loperfido, the new Blue Jays outfielder, who sat at -145 to hit the over 0.5 hits marker heading into August 4. The left-handed hitter generally hits righties better, as he entered play on August 3 with a .257/.315/.406 slash line against right-handed pitching. And, he’s been productive since joining the Jays. Loperfido notched a hit in each of his first three games with Toronto.
He’ll face Gerrit Cole, a right-handed power pitcher, on the 4th.
Next up is Paul Skenes, who will face the Diamondbacks on August 4. Skenes has been a strikeout machine thus far in the Majors, as he recorded 103 strikeouts over 80.2 IP before his 14th start of 2024. Skenes had a nine-game streak of seven or more strikeouts snapped in his last start against the Astros, as he only had six.
As for our last pick, the Braves will get Max Fried back for their game on August 4 against the Marlins. Miami nabbed a win on the 3rd and will throw out talented, yet volatile pitcher Edward Cabrera. Opposing hitters have a 1.032 OPS against Cabrera on the road.
