Arizona placed hard-throwing reliever Justin Martinez on the injured list on May 1, in yet another blow to their bullpen. That was one of several pieces of injury info we received on May 1.

Diamondbacks lose Martinez to IL

The Diamondbacks were without A.J. Puk thanks to elbow inflammation and now Arizona’s down their other lockdown, late-inning reliever. Justin Martinez was placed on the injured list on May 1 with right shoulder inflammation, one day after he was removed from Arizona’s game against the Mets.

Martinez has been limited thanks to shoulder fatigue this month. And on April 30, Martinez’s velocity was down significantly, as he sat in the 95-96 MPH range, down from his triple-digit stuff.

Shelby Miller picked up the save on May 1.

Puk, meanwhile, was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Stanton transferred to 60-day IL

Giancarlo Stanton was transferred to the 60-day IL, as he recovers from left & right epicondylitis in his elbows. Stanton’s been dealing with elbow trouble since spring training, as he’s yet to play in a game since the 2024 World Series.

The move allowed the Yankees to clear a 40-man roster spot. Bryan De La Cruz was claimed off waivers from the Braves and added to the Yanks’ 40-man.

Other injury news

Los Angeles (NL) transferred Michael Kopech (shoulder) and Blake Treinen (forearm) to the 60-day IL.

Two other players transferred over were Frankie Montas (Mets) and James McArthur (Royals).

Giants infielder Tyler Fitzgerald was placed on the injured list with a left rib fracture.

The White Sox placed the recently-acquired Gage Workman on the 10-day IL with a right hip flexor strain. Workman was claimed off waivers after the Cubs DFA’d him. He’s a Rule 5 Draft pick.

Texas placed catcher Kyle Higashioka, who hasn’t played since April 29, on the 10-day IL with a mild left intercostal strain. In other related news, Corey Seager is anticipated to return to the Rangers’ lineup on May 3.

Blue Jays reliever Erik Swanson had an MRI after a setback during his rehab assignment. The MRI revealed no structural damage to his forearm. He’s coming back from a nerve issue in his elbow.
