The Reds had to place ace Hunter Greene on the injured list yet again on June 4. It’s one of several pieces of injury news on the day. Additionally, the Twins got word on Pablo Lopez’s injury, and it’s not particularly promising in the interim.
Greene on IL again
Cincinnati placed Hunter Greene on the 15-day IL with a right groin strain. It’s the second time Greene’s been on the injured list this season.
Greene previously went on the IL with a hamstring strain. He left the Reds’ game on June 3 after five innings pitched.
The Reds made several roster transactions on the 4th, aside from placing Greene on the injured list. Cincinnati transferred Rhett Lowder to the 60-day IL to clear 40-man roster space for Wade Miley.
Miley signed with the Reds on an MLB deal.
Twins without Lopez until after All-Star break
The Twins didn’t have Carlos Correa in their lineup for the game on June 4 thanks to back tightness. But that wasn’t the big story for Minnesota.
Pablo Lopez, who exited the team’s start on June 3, was diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain in his right shoulder per the team. It’ll keep Lopez between eight to 12 weeks, meaning he won’t be back until later in the summer.
Rehab assignments
Royals pitcher Kyle Wright struck out five over 3.2 IP with Omaha (AAA) on June 4. Wright sat in the low-90s with both his four-seamer and two-seamer, capping out at 93 MPH.
Orioles catcher/designated hitter Gary Sanchez went 2-3 with a home run for Norfolk (AAA). Sanchez didn’t play the entire game, as he came out for a pinch runner in the sixth inning. In that same game, Reds infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand picked up two more hits to move to .344 (1.197 OPS) during his own rehab.
Rockies pitcher Austin Gomber struck out three over four innings. Gomber tossed 41 pitches and only allowed one run.
Other injury news
Mariners pitcher Collin Snider went on the 15-day IL with a right forearm flexor strain.
Sawyer Gipson-Long (Tigers), Travis Jankowski (Angels), and Kumar Rocker (Rangers) were activated from the injured list.
