There was a lot of news to digest on July 30, particularly on the trade front. However, there were some notable injury updates on the day, as well. Ronald Acuna Jr. went on the IL with a calf strain, while Juan Soto & George Springer missed their teams’ respective games. Additionally, Shohei Ohtani had to leave his outing against the Reds.

Acuna Jr. on IL

The Braves officially placed Ronald Acuna Jr. on the 10-day IL on July 30, one day after he left the team’s game against the Royals.

It was originally diagnosed as an Achillies injury. An MRI revealed a Grade 1 calf strain.

Ohtani leaves start

Shohei Ohtani was removed from his start on July 30 in the fourth inning with cramps.

Ohtani remained in the game as the team’s DH and he expects to make his next start.

Soto hoping for Friday return

The Mets are hopeful that Juan Soto, removed from the team’s game on July 29 with a foot contusion, can return at the start of the team’s series against the Giants.

X-rays on his foot came back negative. Soto did not play in the team’s final game of their series in San Diego.

Rehab assignments

Orioles pitcher Tyler Wells threw two scoreless innings for Chesapeake (AA) on July 30. Wells, who struck out one batter, tossed 22 pitches.

Lars Nootbaar went 1-4 with a strikeout for Springfield (AA). Additionally, Nolan Gorman went 204 with a home run for the Cardinals’ Double-A affiliate.

Angels infielder Christian Moore went 2-3 for Inland Empire (A).

Other injury news

Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (head) did not play on July 30 against the Orioles.

Seattle placed 1B/OF Luke Raley on the 10-day IL with a back spasm. It’s retroactive to July 27.

The Cardinals placed reliever John King on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain.

Rangers reliever Jacob Webb landed on the injured list with a back spasm.

Brandon Lowe (Rays) was activated off the injured list.
