The Brewers saw one of their young stars exit the team’s game on July 29. Luckily, the team has appeared to dodge a bullet. However, the Twins will be without Byron Buxton for at least the next few ways, while the Blue Jays wait on George Springer’s future availability.
Buxton on IL
The Twins placed outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day IL. It’s the second time Buxton landed on the injured list this season.
Buxton suffered a ribcage injury over the weekend, and officially, was placed on the list with left ribcage inflammation.
Minnesota did not give a timetable for a potential return.
Springer misses doubleheader
Blue Jays outfielder George Springer did not play during Toronto’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
Springer was hit in the head on July 28 during the opening game of that series. Manager John Schneider stated Springer was doing better and the team is hopeful he can avoid a stint on the IL.
Chourio leaves game
After legging out a triple in the middle of the Brewers’ game against the Cubs, Jackson Chourio was forced to exit the team’s game.
News out of Milwaukee regarding Chourio is positive, as he’s dealing with a right hamstring spasm per the team.
Rehab assignments
Luis Gil struck out seven for Triple-A Scranton on the 29th. Gil threw 75 pitches and topped out at 98 MPH with his fastball, averaging 96 MPH with it.
Hunter Greene threw 50 pitches for Triple-A Louisville. Greene struck out six and topped out at 100 MPH in the outing. However, he conceded two home runs.
Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish threw 3.2 scoreless innings for Double-A Chesapeake on July 29. Bradish struck out two and threw 38 pitches in total.
Guardians pitcher Shane Bieber struck out seven over four frames for Akron (AA). Bieber, who gave up one run, threw 58 pitches for the Rubberducks.
Nolan Gorman went 0-4 with two strikeouts for Double-A Springfield.
Other injury news
The Orioles placed Colin Selby on the 15-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
Rookie infielder Hyeseong Kim hit the IL with left shoulder bursitis.
Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suarez did not play on July 29, one day after he was hit by a pitch on his right hand. X-rays, an MRI & CT scan all came back negative, indicating Suarez did not sustain a fracture.
Mets outfielder Juan Soto left the team’s game on July 29 after fouling a ball off his left foot. He was diagnosed with a foot contusion.
