It was a good day for several teams like the Cardinals & Rangers, teams that got injured players back. Brendan Donovan is back after sitting on the 27th with a hip issue, while Corey Seager returned from the IL. And, the Orioles will send two of their best young bats, Colton Cowser & Jordan Westburg, out on rehab assignments soon.
Bichette doesn’t start
The Blue Jays opted not to start Bo Bichette on May 28 thanks to lower back tightness. However, Toronto fans shouldn’t worry too much.
Bichette came off the bench as a pinch hitter on the 28th, and he came up with a big two-run home run in the ninth inning to help the Jays beat Texas 2-0.
Cowser & Westburg on rehab assignments
Colton Cowser & Jordan Westburg will join Norfolk (AAA) on rehab assignments this week.
Cowser only has 18 plate appearances, as he last played on March 30. He’s been on the IL for almost two months thanks to a thumb fracture. Westburg, meanwhile, has been on the IL since late April thanks to a hamstring strain.
Imanaga progressing
Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga tossed a 28-pitch session on May 28 as he progresses his recovery from a hamstring strain.
Manager Craig Counsell said if things go well this weekend — he said Imanaga will work out again before the Cubs head off on the road — the left-hander will head to Arizona for the next step in his recovery.
Rehab assignments
Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff threw a complete game on May 28 with Wisconsin (A+). Granted, it was a seven-inning contest but Woodruff struck six, gave up just five hits and no earned runs. Woodruff threw 74 pitches in total.
Blue Jays infielder Andres Gimenez went 1-3 with a walk for Dunedin (A). Gimenez played the field for six innings.
Other injury news
The Pirates placed Joey Bart on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
Andres Chaparro (Nationals), Jackson Kowar (Mariners), Corey Seager (Rangers), Endy Rodriguez (Pirates), and Robert Stephenson (Angels) were activated off the injured list.
