Left-hander Shane McClanahan won’t be an option for the Tampa Bay Rays moving forward, based on what the club indicated on October 11. Plus, Caleb Durbin and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were both confirmed to have undergone operations after the 2026 season.

Durbin underwent surgery

The Red Sox announced that infielder Caleb Durbin had surgery to repair the PIP joint in his left pinkie finger. That was done last week.

Durbin suffered a dislocated pinkie finger during the summer, although he continued to play through the end of the 2026 campaign.

McClanahan done for 2026

Rays manager Kevin Cash indicated that Shane McClanahan will not be an option for Tampa Bay in the ALCS or a hypothetical World Series matchup with either the Brewers or Dodgers. Thus, his 2026 campaign is over.

McClanahan was placed on the IL in early September with forearm tightness after his final start against Texas that month. The club held out hope then that he could return. However, the club ruled him out of the ALDS in late September, and now, the rest of the year.

The left-hander made 24 starts for the Rays this season.

Guerrero Jr. had laser eye surgery

Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had laser eye surgery down in Miami last week.

The surgery was successful, per the institute that performed the operation. It was done to correct Guerrero Jr.’s vision.
