The Diamondbacks are already down A.J. Puk and may be down another reliever. Justin Martinez has a significant elbow injury, one that could require Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Matt Chapman went on the injured list with a hand injury.

Chapman lands on IL

Two days after Matt Chapman hurt his hand diving into first base — not to mention, taking a pitch from Enyel De Los Santos to his back — the Giants third baseman was placed on the 10-day IL with inflammation in his right hand.

Chapman indicated to reporters that he’ll likely miss more than the allotted 10 days. X-rays came back negative. However, an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his right hand and several sprained ligaments in his fingers.

Martinez dealing with UCL sprain

Arizona received yet another big blow to their bullpen, as Justin Martinez was placed on the 15-day IL with a UCL sprain. The sprain was revealed in an MRI.

Martinez threw a 97 MPH fastball during the ninth inning with two outs in the ninth. Seattle, down four at the time, came back to tie. But immediately after that pitch, Martinez signaled for the trainer to come out.

The D-Backs reliever will seek another opinion before a decision on Tommy John surgery is made.

Additionally, the Diamondbacks placed Christian Montes De Oca on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.

Mariners lose starter to IL

The Mariners recalled Logan Evans on June 10 to replace an injured Bryce Miller. Miller was placed on the injured list with elbow inflammation.

Miller received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow and won’t throw for at least the next two weeks.

Rehab assignments

Mets pitcher Sean Manaea struck out four over 2.2 innings for Brooklyn (A+). Manaea threw 46 pitches.

Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton went 2-3 with a walk and three RBI for Somerset (AA) on June 10. Stanton was subbed for a pinch runner in the seventh inning.

Stanton (elbow) hasn’t played in the Majors yet this season.

Other injury news

The Angels placed utilityman Chris Taylor on the 10-day IL with a left hand fracture.

Baltimore activated Cedric Mullins and Jordan Westburg from the injured list. The Orioles placed Jorge Mateo on the IL with left elbow inflammation.

And for another Shohei Ohtani update, the two-way star tossed 44 pitches across three innings of simulated work on June 10. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts didn’t completely rule out Ohtani pitching in a game before the All-Star break.
