Shohei Ohtani’s pitching program was delayed again. Ohtani was hit by a pitch on June 8, one of several injury notes from the day. Additionally, the Twins will be without another starter, as rookie Zebby Matthews landed on the IL.
Ohtani’s next BP session delayed
Shohei Ohtani was hit by a pitch on June 8 against the Cardinals, a move that’ll have short-term consequences.
Ohtani remained in the game. However, Ohtani was scheduled to throw live BP on June 9 in San Diego, which was originally supposed to happen in St. Louis. Thanks to rain, Ohtani didn’t throw to hitters but will on June 10.
Coulombe back, Matthews on IL
The Twins got back one of their best relievers this season on June 8. Danny Coulombe, who last pitched in the Majors on May 14, was activated from the IL. Coulombe was on the injured list with a left forearm extensor strain.
Coulombe hasn’t given up an earned run yet this season, through 16.2 IP.
Minnesota, though, lost Zebby Matthews to the injured list. Matthews was placed on the IL with a right shoulder strain. He’s the second notable Twins starter placed on the IL this week, as Pablo Lopez was added there during the team’s road trip.
Chapman fine after HBP
Matt Chapman was hurt his right hand against the Braves on June 8. Chapman remained in the game for the duration but underwent X-rays after the contest.
The X-rays came back negative, per the team.
Rehab assignments
Royals reliever Lucas Erceg tossed a scoreless inning for Omaha (AAA). Erceg threw 12 pitches in the outing.
Other injury news
Andrew Heaney left his start on June 8 with left calf cramping.
The White Sox placed Jared Shuster on the 15-day IL with a blister on his left hand, retroactive to June 5. In a corresponding move, Fraser Ellard was transferred to the 60-day IL to make way for newly signed pitcher Tyler Alexander.
