The Blue Jays offered several updates on injured players, including one notable player who left the team’s game on August 18. Additionally, the Cardinals will be without Brendan Donovan for at least the next week.

Guerrero Jr. leaves game

First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left the Blue Jays’ game on August 18 against the Pirates.

Per Toronto, Guerrero Jr. is dealing with left hamstring tightness.

Updates on other injured Blue Jays

Outfielder Anthony Santander has been working on his hitting progression in Toronto, per the team. He’ll meet up with the team in Miami this weekend to continue to ramp up.

Nick Sandlin has thrown from 120 feet and will continue to do so. Yimi Garcia has not progressed. Garcia went on the injured list back in July with a shoulder impingement.

Burger back on IL

The Texas Rangers placed Jake Burger on the 10-day IL with a left wrist sprain.

It’s the third time the Rangers have placed Burger on the injured list this season. He previously dealt with an oblique strain and a quadriceps injury.

Donovan heads to injured list

The Cardinals placed All-Star utilityman Brendan Donovan on the 10-day IL with a left groin strain. It’s retroactive to August 15.

In positive news, Willson Contreras returned after missing the last four games.

Other injury news

Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler, who went on the IL on the 17th, underwent a procedure to address the blood clot in his right shoulder. There is no known timetable for his return.

Boston outfielder Rob Refsnyder went on the injured list with a left oblique strain. It’s retroactive to August 15.

Marlins infielder Graham Pauley was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain. The move was retroactive to August 17.

Alex Lange (Tigers), Pavin Smith, and Ildemaro Vargas (Diamondbacks) were activated off the injured list.
