Another Major League closer landed on the injured list on August 27. The Brewers will be without hard-thrower Trevor Megill for at least the next few days, as he landed on the IL after conceding three combined runs over his last two outings. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Luis Robert Jr. is back on the injured list.
Megill placed on IL
The Brewers placed closer Trevor Megill on the 15-day IL with a right flexor strain. It’s retroactive to August 25.
Megill told the media he suffered a Grade 1 strain, a mild one that he stated wasn’t too serious. The right-hander stated he hopes to stay on the injured list for the minimum period of time.
Freeman sits game versus Reds
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman did not play against the Reds on August 27.
Freeman is dealing with a neck stinger. Los Angeles will have a day off before the team faces the Diamondbacks this coming weekend.
Robert Jr. on IL
The White Sox placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
Robert Jr. suffered a Grain 2 strain on August 26, an injury that will keep him out for several weeks, per the team. It could be the end of his 2025 season, as there are only four weeks left before the end of the regular season.
Rehab assignments
Three Mets started rehab assignments on August 27. Jose Siri walked and got hit by a pitch for St. Lucie (A), while Jesse Winker went 1-2. Winker was the DH and was subbed in the sixth. Siri played the first five innings in center field.
Francisco Alvarez, meanwhile, went 1-2 for Syracuse (AAA). However, he was pulled after a hit by pitch.
Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows went 2-3 with a strikeout for Toledo (AAA).
Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca went 0-3 with a strikeout for Durham (AAA).
Other injury news
The Astros placed Victor Caratini on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
Cardinals reliever John King was placed on the IL (retroactive to August 26) with a mid-back strain.
Athletics pitcher Joey Estes hit the injured list with a herniated disc in his lower back.
Reds reliever Graham Ashcraft was placed on the injured list with a right forearm strain.
Nick Lodolo (Reds) and Simeon Woods Richardson (Twins) were activated off the injured list.
