The Guardians pulled off what could have been considered unthinkable on the 23rd when Cleveland passed the Tigers for first in the AL Central. However, not all news out of that game was good. David Fry, a key piece of the Guardians’ 2024 season, is done after a nasty facial fracture sustained against Detroit.

Fry done for 2025

David Fry was placed on the 10-day IL with a facial fracture, and the timeline per the team is six to eight weeks.

Fry sustained the injury after taking a 99 MPH fastball from Tarik Skubal to his face on the 23rd. The hit from the pitch came on a foul bunt attempt.

It ends what has been a difficult 2025 injury-wise for the 2024 AL All-Star. Fry didn’t play a MLB game until June 1, as he missed the first two months recovering from a UCL revision.

Langford on IL

Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford was placed on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain, adding him to the list of players Texas will be without over the last few days of the season.

Langford left the game on September 23 with what was reported as side tightness. Now, it’s officially an oblique strain.

The Rangers have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Tatis Jr., Harper dealing with illnesses

Fernando Tatis Jr. and Bryce Harper were not in their respective teams’ starting lineups on September 24, as the two are dealing with illnesses.

Tatis Jr. missed the Padres’ entire three-game series against the Brewers. He last played on September 21.

Harper, meanwhile, sat out of the starting lineup alongside J.T. Realmuto. Realmuto left last night’s game against the Marlins with a hand injury.
