Toronto moved to two games clear of New York (AL) and Tampa in the AL East on July 4 after defeating the Angels. However, the Blue Jays were withouth Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and will wait for update on Andres Gimenez, who left the aforementioned game. Additionally, several teams grapple with more pitching injuries.

Updates on Blue Jays’ injuries

Toronto got back Bo Bichette on July 4, although the Jays didn’t have Vladimir Guerrero Jr. available. Guerrero Jr. missed the game against the Angels with a sore foot, one day after he fouled a ball of it.

Andres Gimenez, meanwhile, left the game on the 4th with an ankle injury. Gimenez, who originally hurt it on July 2, is scheduled to get an MRI on it.

Lastly, Anthony Santander was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Williams lands on IL

Just two days after Trevor Williams had a very difficult outing against the Tigers, Washington placed him on the injured list with a right elbow sprain.

Williams threw three innings in that game, one that saw him concede seven runs and throw over 50 pitches in the first inning.

In some good news, the Nationals activated Keibert Ruiz off the injured list before their Independence Day game against the Red Sox. Ruiz was on the IL with a head injury.

Rehab assignments

Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck threw five scoreless innings for Portland (AA) on July 4. Houck struck out four and allowed only three hits. In that same game, Masataka Yoshida went 1-4 with a run scored.

Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is on rehab with Sacramento (AAA).

Other injury news

Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon was placed on the 15-day IL with a right calf strain. Per manager Craig Counsell, Taillon is expected to miss over a month with the injury.

Both the Mets & Yankees made transactions prior to the second round of the Subway Series. Clarke Schmidt, who exited his start on July 3, was placed on the IL with right forearm tightness. Jose Butto of the Mets, meanwhile, was placed on the IL with an illness.

The Athletics placed Luis Urias on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

Graham Ashcraft (Reds), Fraser Ellard (White Sox), Ryan Feltner (Rockies), Zack Gelof (Athletics), Noelvi Marte (Reds), Reese Olson (Tigers), and Tyler O’Neill (Orioles) were activated off the injured list.
