The Diamondbacks continue to take hits. Not only did Arizona learn Corbin Carroll need an IL stint, two key bats for the Diamondbacks left their game against the White Sox. Additionally, an odd play in San Diego caused Keibert Ruiz to leave the Nationals’ contest against the Padres.

Ruiz leaves game against Nationals

Keibert Ruiz left the Nationals’ game on June 23 thanks to a head injury.

The head injury occured while Ruiz was on the bench. Josh Bell hit a foul ball to the Nationals’ dugout that bounced off the back wall and nicked Ruiz.

Two D-Backs leave game versus White Sox

The Diamondbacks are dealing with more injuries.

Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez both left the D-Backs’ game on June 23 against the White Sox. Suarez left after he was hit on the right hand by a 96 MPH fastball from Shane Smith.

Naylor, meanwhile, left the game with a shoulder injury.

In what might be an even greater punch, the Diamondbacks will have to place Corbin Carroll on the 10-day IL, thanks to the hand injury that’s kept him out of the lineup since last week. An MRI, which he was scheduled for, revealed a wrist fracture.

Handley on IL

The Orioles are down another catcher.

Maverick Handley was placed on the 7-day concussion IL after a collision that occurred on June 22. Handley was up the third base line while Jazz Chisholm Jr. was dashing towards home plate. Chisholm Jr. scored but Handley had to exit.

He’s the second catcher for the Orioles to land on the injured list, as Adley Rutschman is sidelined, as well.

Baltimore signed Chadwick Tromp to replace Handley on the roster.

Other injury news

Ryan Mountcastle (Orioles) and Jose Siri (Mets) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

The Royals activated Kyle Wright from the injured list and optioned him to Omaha (AAA). Additionally, the Reds activated Jeimer Candelario and, subsequently, DFA’d him. Candelario is in the second year of a three-year deal signed in the 2023-24 offseason.
