The Brewers and White Sox continued to finalize their respective Opening Day rosters on March 26. Milwaukee is demoting a notable lefty to Triple-A to build up for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, in Chicago, the White Sox continue to trim their roster down.
Quintana moved to Nashville
The Brewers are sending Jose Quintana, who signed with the team in March, down to Nashville (AAA) to build up for the 2025 season. Quintana accepted the assignment, necessary given the lefty has more than enough MLB experience to deny it.
Quintana only threw five innings during Cactus League action. His longest outing came on March 22 against the Athletics, one where he threw three innings and 37 pitches.
White Sox announce multiple moves
The White Sox confirmed several demotions, plus one DFA and one waiver claim on March 26.
Chicago (AL) demoted Bobby Dalbec, Steven Wilson, James Karinchak, Tristan Gray, and Chase Meidroth down to Minor League camp to trim down their roster. Additionally, the White Sox DFA’d outfielder Oscar Colas.
Karinchak was signed by the White Sox on a Minor League deal after an up-and-down run with Cleveland. The 29-year-old posted dominant strikeout numbers in the shortened 2020 season, as he punched out 53 over 27 frames that year. However, the ex-Bryant star never posted a BB% south of 13% in his MLB career.
The 29-year-old walked nine over eight innings.
As for Colas, the former top prospect was a hot name out of Cuba years ago. Three years ago in the Minors, the 26-year-old hit a combined 23 home runs across three levels. However, Colas never clicked in the Majors, habitually rolling over on baseballs over two MLB seasons.
He registered above-average bat speed (75 MPH average in 2024), however.
Additionally, the White Sox optioned reliever Justin Anderson to Triple-A Charlotte and claimed Greg Jones from the Rockies. Jones is a toolsy converted outfielder with speed. He made his MLB debut with Colorado in 2024, five years after the Rays drafted him in the first round.
