The Atlanta Braves have been one of the busier teams — in terms of total moves made — in the early stages of the offseason. Atlanta grabbed two pitchers off waivers last week and added two more bodies to their roster on November 19. One of those players is 2025 Gold Glove winner Mauricio Dubon, acquired in a one-for-one deal with the Astros.

Braves add two more players

Aside from re-signing their 2025 closer, the Braves pulled off a pair of trades on November 19. Atlanta acquired former first-rounder Ryan Rolison from the Rockies for cash and Mauricio Dubon from the Astros.

Rolison is a left-hander who was just designated for assignment by the Rockies. A first-round pick in 2018, Rolison worked primarily with three pitches: a mid-80s slider, a slower curveball, and a four-seamer with cut. He didn’t strike out many batters, as Rolison had 25 strikeouts and walked 20 over 42.1 IP.

The Braves also added Mauricio Dubon, a utilityman who just won a Gold Glove in 2025. The 31-year-old had a +20 Outs Above Average last season.

Last season, Dubon slashed .241/.289/.355 with seven home runs and 28 extra-base hits. He’s not a power hitter by any means but did hit 10 home runs two seasons ago. It’s also worth noting that six of his seven home runs in 2025 were away from Houston, a friendly environment for right-handed hitters.

Dubon, who made $5MM last year, has one year left of team control.

In return, the Astros received Nick Allen. Allen is a plus defender at short and was a Gold Glove finalist in the National League. However, Allen ranked among the league’s worst in terms of offensive production. He ranked dead-last in the Majors (min. 350 PA) in OPS (.535) and wOBA (.245).

Allen came into the offseason with enough service time to be Super Two-eligible. Since this is his first go-around with being arbitration-eligible, he will very likely command less than Dubon in 2026.

Mets release Montas

The Mets officially released Frankie Montas on November 19, one day after he was designated for assignment.

Montas required Tommy John surgery late in the summer, which will likely keep him out for all of 2026. He signed a two-year deal in December 2024.

Rays trade for Gomez & Wilson

Late on November 18, the Rays and White Sox executed a four-player trade. Tampa sent Everson Pereira and prospect Tanner Murray to the White Sox for pitchers Steven Wilson and Yoendrys Gomez.

Wilson has shuttled around in recent years. The Padres sent him to the White Sox in 2024 as part of the Dylan Cease trade. The 31-year-old is primarily a two-pitch pitcher, working with a backspinning fastball, coupled with a sweeper.

Gomez struck out 58 over 62.2 IP with the White Sox last season, working as both a starter and reliever. The 26-year-old works with a lot of pitches, including a four-seamer, sinker, changeup, slurve-ish curveball, and sweeper.

In return, the White Sox get a former top outfield prospect in Pereira, plus infielder Tanner Murray. Murray was added to the Rays’ 40-man roster on the 18th. Murray, a former fourth-rounder, hit a career-high 18 home runs last year in Triple-A.
