As Week 23 of the 2026 fantasy baseball season gets ready to kick off on September 7, it’s time to go over some pitcher players. Among our picks include several pitchers on the rise, plus a familiar face from the first few weeks of 2026.

Best Week 23 pitchers to target

• SP Davis Martin (White Sox)
• SP Michael McGreevy (Cardinals)
• SP Andrew Painter (Phillies)
• SP Hayden Wesneski (Astros)

We’ll start with two starters who will face one another on September 8: Hayden Wesneski and Andrew Painter.

Out of the 63 starting pitchers who tossed at least 10 innings between August 27 and September 5, Hayden Wesneski’s 0.75 ERA was the second-best in the Majors, behind only Cam Schlittler (0.66). Wesneski struck out 11 over 12 innings, pitching well against the White Sox and his old organization, the New York Yankees.

As for Painter, Phillies fans are starting to see why he was hyped for so long as a prospect. Painter had, arguably, his best outing as a Major Leaguer his last time out when he tossed seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out 12 over his last 13 innings, posting an ERA just slightly north of 2.00.

Davis Martin, once one of the most-owned pitchers in fantasy, saw his value take a deep hit since the start of June. But Martin pitched well on September 2 in Houston, as he struck out three and didn’t allow an earned run over 5.2 IP. He’ll get the Pirates at home on September 9.

The results haven’t been there in recent weeks for Michael McGreevy, although he did get a win in his last time out. McGreevy will face the Giants on September 7.

Jake Bennett struck out six or more in each of his last four starts, and went six or more innings in three straight. Bennett is scheduled to face the Angels at home on September 9.

Overview of Week 22

Toss this week in the trash for Bryce Elder and Clay Holmes, both of whom did not pitch well during Week 22. Or at least, the results certainly weren’t there.

Jacob Lopez was sterling versus the Athletics on September 2, as he struck out seven and didn’t allow an earned run over six innings. Lopez picked up his sixth win of the season.

Cal Quantrill, meanwhile, continued his dominant run, as he struck out five over seven innings without an earned run. And yes, Quantrill nabbed a win.
