The Mets have been unable to have both Francisco Lindor & Juan Soto in their lineup at the same time for virtually all of this year. That trend continued, as even though Lindor returned from the injured list, Soto was out.

Soto missed doubleheader

Mets outfielder Juan Soto was evaluated on the 24th, per the team, and didn’t suit up in any capacity during the doubleheader against the Cubs.

Manager Carlos Mendoza indicated to ESPN that an IL stint for Soto, who left the game on the 23rd due to back tightness, has not been ruled out.

Witt Jr. out again

Royals infielder Bobby Witt Jr. missed his fifth consecutive game on June 24.

Witt Jr. stated before the game that he feels better “every day” since the injury and was able to take groundballs in St. Petersburg before the contest (h/t MLB.com).

IL moves

The Cubs placed two pitchers on the injured list. One was expected, as Edward Cabrera is officially on the IL with a hamstring strain. Ben Brown, meanwhile, was placed on the injured list with a neck strain.

Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon was placed on the injured list with a throat infection.

Rockies reliever Jaden Hill landed on the IL with right shoulder tendinitis.

Rehab assignments

Royals pitcher Kris Bubic tossed a scoreless inning (eight pitches) for Triple-A Omaha. Bubic averaged 92 MPH and topped out at 93 MPH.

Dodgers pitcher Landon Knack struck out two but gave up five hits and walked one over 1.1 IP (33 pitches) for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin returned to Altoona and had a grand day at the plate. Griffin went 2-2 with a home run and three RBI in his rehab assignment game with the Curve.

Other notes

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy stated that Roman Anthony (finger) has not made progress (h/t Boston Globe). Additionally, Caleb Durbin was lifted with a finger injury.

Luis Arraez (foot), Zack Gelof (hand), and Kyle Tucker (back) were out.

Kyle Schwarber (back) and Ernie Clement (hip) did not start for their respective teams. Both players came off the bench.
