The injury news from April 20 started early on the day, as Sonny Gray left the Red Sox’s late-morning game against the Tigers thanks to hamstring tightness. That was just one piece of injury-related news from the 20th, which also featured a major update on Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz.
Acuna Jr. leaves game
The Braves pulled Ronald Acuna Jr. from their game against the Nationals on the 20th after he was hit on the left hand by a pitch from Jake Irvin. That was the second time that Acuna Jr. was hit in the contest.
Per the team on X, Acuna Jr. underwent X-rays that came back negative. He is considered day-to-day by the team.
Gray departs start
Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray departed his start on April 20 early with a hamstring injury.
Per the team, Gray will have an MRI on the 21st that will determine the extent of the injury.
Diaz out months
The Dodgers confirmed that closer Edwin Diaz will have surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. That news comes after what has been a tough month for Edwin Diaz, marred by lower-than-average velocity and a blow-up on the 19th against the Rockies.
Manager Dave Roberts stated on the 20th that Diaz went to the training staff after the game and reported elbow discomfort. Imaging confirmed the loose bodies.
Diaz is expected to miss at least three months.
