Atlanta’s offense continued to click on April 20, as the Braves won yet another game. However, the exact opposite could be said about the Royals, who lost their eighth straight game on the day.
Braves take opener vs Nats
Atlanta took yet another game against an NL East rival. The Braves defeated the Nationals 9-4 on the 20th to take a sixth consecutive game.
Drake Baldwin had two hits and two RBI. Matt Olson drilled a three-run home run off Jake Irvin in the fifth.
Starter Bryce Elder struck out six over 6.2 IP and picked up his third win of 2026.
Royals lose in extras
Baltimore won 7-5 in 12 innings over the Royals.
Eight of the 12 runs scored in this contest came in the 12th. Samuel Basallo broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single, and Leody Taveras blasted a grand slam later on to put the O’s up by five. Nick Loftin hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom half but it wasn’t enough.
Seth Lugo (32.3% CSW%) struck out seven over seven scoreless. Kyle Bradish (32.6% Whiff%) struck out seven but gave up 10 hits over 5.1 IP.
Additionally, Jac Caglianone hit his first home run of the season.
The Royals now move to 7-16, putting Kansas City in the sole position of last place across the Majors.
Red Sox won on Patriots’ Day
In the morning game, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tigers 8-6.
This was a strange game, to say the least. Jack Flaherty (36.7% Whiff%) walked six over 3.1 IP and cost himself with a throwing error that scored Caleb Durbin in the second.
But some soft contact in the seventh went the Red Sox’s way. Pinch-hitter Ceddanne Rafaela picked up a two-run single to put Boston on top and give the Sox a lead that wouldn’t be relinquished.
Dodgers get back on track
Five home runs helped push the Dodgers to a 12-3 victory over the Rockies.
Max Muncy and Dalton Rushing each had two home runs. Miguel Rojas had three hits, one of which was a home run. Rojas also picked up his 1,000th career hit in the affair.
Justin Wrobleski allowed just one earned run over seven innings.
