There was some significant injury-related news on June 8, despite the limited slate of MLB contests. Baltimore placed Chris Bassitt on the IL, while his former teammate, Max Scherzer, is one of two injured Blue Jays expected to return this week.

Cease & Scherzer back this week

The Blue Jays are getting two pieces of their rotation this week.

Manager John Schneider indicated on the 8th that Dylan Cease (hamstring strain) will start on June 9. Max Scherzer (forearm, ankle) will return one day later.

Anthony remains shut down

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy indicated that Roman Anthony remains shut down from swinging.

Anthony was shut down last week after he felt renewed discomfort. The sophomore outfielder hasn’t played in a game since May 4.

IL moves

The Angels placed two infielders on the injured list. Adam Frazier is dealing with right elbow inflammation, while Vaughn Grissom was placed on the list with a left oblique strain.

Chris Bassitt was placed on the IL with low back discomfort.

Astros infielder Nick Allen was placed on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.

Mariners infielder J.P Crawford landed on the IL with a right hand contusion.

Jonathan Heasley (Rays) and Yoan Moncada (Angels) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Three D-Backs on rehab

The Diamondbacks had three rehabbers in the ACL on June 8: Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Jordan Lawlar, and Carlos Santana.

Santana went 0-3 with a strikeout. Gurriel Jr. went 1-4 with two strikeouts and an RBI. Lawlar went 2-4 with an RBI.

Other notes

Chandler Simpson (thumb) and Samuel Basallo (wrist) were both out of their respective starting lineups on June 8. However, both came off the bench.

Daulton Varsho (wrist) did not play.
