Both the Phillies and Rangers are in deep fights for playoff spots. And their lives did not get any easier on September 26. Josh Jung suffered a hand fracture in an ugly loss in Minnesota, while Luis Arraez missed the Phillies’ contest on that day with an ankle injury.
Arraez could be done for regular season
Phillies second baseman Luis Arraez was not in the starting lineup on September 25. Before the game, manager Don Mattingly that Arraez is still stiff and sore, and reiterated that he’s dealing with “not a great” sprain.
Arraez was removed from the club’s game against the Brewers a day earlier with an ankle sprain.
Contreras may not be ready for Wild Card
Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras expressed some doubt that he’ll be available for the team’s series against the Yankees next week.
Contreras indicated that he’s “slowly getting better” but has not been able to swing in the past two days. To little shock, he did not play in either of the Red Sox’s two games against the Cubs on the 25th.
Injured Yankees work in live BP
Ryan Weathers worked in a live BP session on September 25, and he faced Trent Grisham and Giancarlo Stanton in said session.
Weathers was working in the mid-90s with his fastball, per the club.
IL moves
Corbin Burnes won’t make his previously scheduled start on th 26th, as the D-Backs placed him on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation.
Mariners reliever Andres Munoz was placed on the 15-day IL with right knee inflammation.
The Marlins placed reliever Tyler Zuber on the 15-day IL with a right elbow sprain.
Brewers 1B Andrew Vaughn was placed on the 10-day IL with an illness, retroactive to the 22nd.
Dalton Rushing (Dodgers), Gavin Hollowell (Rockies), Bryse Wilson (Brewers), and Manuel Rodriguez (Rays) were activated off the injured list.
Fernando Cruz (elbow discomfort) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Other notes
Rangers third baseman Josh Jung suffered a fractured hand after he took a fastball off his hand.
Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson is day-to-day after he fouled a ball off his foot.
Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt (illness) was out against the Cardinals.
Xavier Edwards (thumb) and Chase Meidroth (hamstring) were out of their clubs’ respective lineups.
