The 2026 campaign was a very difficult one for Hunter Greene. He missed the first three months due to elbow surgery recovery, and will need another surgery as the right-hander’s 2026 season concludes.
Greene done for 2026
Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall stated on August 7 that Hunter Greene will need surgery to repair a partial UCL tear in his right elbow.
It’s unknown at this point what surgery he will need exactly. But regardless of the fact, he’s done for this year.
Benge pulled
Mets rookie outfielder Carson Benge was removed early from the club’s game on August 7.
It was due to left wrist soreness.
Kelly leaves vs. Dodgers
Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly departed against the Dodgers due to a right leg cramp.
It is worth noting that Kelly has a history of leg cramps.
IL moves
Blue Jays infielder Luis Urias was placed on the 10-day IL with a right quad strain.
Pirates catcher Joey Bart landed on the IL with a fractured hand.
Thanks to a hamstring strain, Rays infielder Ben Williamson was placed on the injured list.
The Twins placed pitcher Joe Ryan on the 15-day IL with a left glute strain.
Guardians starter/reliever Slade Cecconi was placed on the IL with arm fatigue.
Mariners reliever Cole Wilcox was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain.
White Sox pitcher Chris Murphy was placed on the 15-day IL with a left flexor strain.
Rehab assignments
Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz went 0-1 with two walks for Triple-A Indianapolis.
Diamondbacks reliever Justin Martinez tossed a scoreless inning for Low-A Visalia.
Other news
Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras (illness) was out for the second straight day on August 7.
Diamondbacks reliever A.J. Puk was shut down for the rest of the year, per manager Torey Lovullo.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sat for the third straight game for Toronto. Additionally, Blue Jays manager John Schneider believes that Yimi Garcia (thoracic outlet) is likely done for 2026.
