Boston’s winning streak continued on August 7, thanks in large part to rookie pitcher Payton Tolle. And as for the Dodgers, the club had a chance to snap their lengthy losing streak. However, that did not happen.
Tolle strikes out 14, Red Sox win
The Red Sox won 13-1 thanks to an incredible performance from Payton Tolle. The left-hander struck out 14 and allowed one run over six innings.
It was another great offensive performance, as every starter in the Red Sox’s lineup had at least one hit. Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Masataka Yoshida, Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, & Jake Rogers each had two.
Abreu drove in three runs.
Diamondbacks walk off Dodgers
The Dodgers’ woes continue, as the club lost the first game of their three-game series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
A Nolan Arenado second-inning home run and Geraldo Perdomo RBI triple three innings later gave Arizona a 2-0 lead. Los Angeles tied it up, thanks to a Freddie Freeman groundout RBI and Tommy Edman single, the latter of which came in the seventh. One inning later, Andy Pages hit a solo shot to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.
But in the ninth, the Dodgers saw things fall apart. Edwin Diaz surrendered a two-run home run to rookie Ryan Waldschmidt. It was a walk-off shot to left-center that gave the Diamondbacks a 4-3 victory.
The Dodgers have now lost seven games in a row.
Culpepper homers in MLB debut
The Twins were able to put six past Shane Drohan of the Brewers, and Minnesota was able to win 8-6 against their Wisconsin interleague rival on August 7.
Rookie Kaelen Culpepper had quite the MLB debut, as his first career hit was a solo home run to bring the game to one. The Brewers originally jutted out to a four-run lead but Josh Bell cut it to two with a two-run home run.
Bell continued his strong season, as he had four hits and three RBI for the Twins.
Minnesota’s bullpen tossed four scoreless innings in the victory.
Gausman sharp in first Cubs start
Cubs pitcher Kevin Gausman allowed just two runs over seven innings in his Chicago debut, as the club won 6-4 over the Kansas City Royals.
Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch, and Pedro Ramirez each had two hits. Ramirez hit his second career MLB home run off Mason Black in the eighth inning.
As for the Royals, Carter Jensen hit his 16th home run of the year.
Rays win pitchers’ duel
Drew Rasmussen and Logan Gilbert allowed two combined runs on August 7. But Gilbert allowed both of them, as Drew Rasmussen tossed seven scoreless innings in a 2-1 victory over the Rays.
Rasmussen, who struck out eight, lowered his 2026 ERA to 2.75.
As for the offense, Jonny DeLuca and Jonathan Aranda both hit solo home runs for Tampa Bay.
