A couple of 2026 All-Stars were in the injury news on July 7. Hunter Goodman was scratched, while the Twins will be without Byron Buxton through the end of the first half with a hip injury. Additionally, the Pirates will be down Konnor Griffin for some time.
Griffin out at least two months
Pirates rookie Konnor Griffin was placed on the 10-day IL with a torn tendon in his left finger, hours after ESPN reported that he was dealing with it and could be out for at least a month.
Turns out, Griffin will likely be out longer. Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk indicated that Griffin will need to wear a splint and likely won’t be back for eight to 10 weeks.
Buxton placed on IL
The Twins placed outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day IL with a hip strain.
Buxton is shelved again thanks to a nagging hip injury that will cost him the 2026 All-Star Game. The outfielder aggravated that hip during the Twins’ finale at Yankee Stadium on July 5, which kept him out for most of last week.
IL moves
Brewers infielder David Hamilton was placed on the 10-day IL with a strained left hamstring.
Brandon Lockridge (Brewers) and Max Rajcic (Cardinals) were transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
As noted on the 6th, the Astros had three rehabbing players in Sugar Land. Jeremy Pena went 1-4, Lance McCullers Jr. struck out four over four innings (77 pitches), and Ronel Blanco struck out two over two scoreless innings (27 pitches) for the Space Cowboys.
Munetaka Murakami went 1-3 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Charlotte.
Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino went 2-3 with a walk for Triple-A Omaha.
Reds third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes went 1-4 with Triple-A Louisville.
Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe struck out one over 1.1 IP for Low-A Lakeland. Jobe, who tossed 32 pitches in total, averaged 99 MPH on his four-seamer, and he topped out at 100 MPH.
Angels reliever Ben Joyce conceded two hits and allowed two walks for the team’s ACL affiliate.
Other notes
Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman was scratched against the Dodgers due to a wrist injury.
