Several teams were without big bats on May 14. Both the Twins and Brewers were missing star outfielders, while the Mariners will be without Cal Raleigh for likely weeks with an oblique injury.

Buxton out

One day after Byron Buxton hit two home runs against the Marlins, he was held out of the Twins’ lineup.

Buxton didn’t play thanks to right hip soreness.

Yelich out again

Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that a decision on whether Christian Yelich will go back on the IL will be made on May 15 (h/t Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Yelich just returned from the injured list after he recovered from a back strain. However, he’s been out of the Brewers’ lineup for the past two days due to a back injury.

IL placements

For the first time in his MLB career, Cal Raleigh is on the IL. Raleigh, who left the Mariners’ game on May 13 after he grabbed his side (he stayed in, although briefly), was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain.

Rockies reliever Jimmy Herget was placed on the IL with a right shoulder impingement.

Rehab assignments

Astros outfielder Jake Meyers went 0-4 with Double-A Corpus Christi.

Brewers pitcher Rob Zastryzny tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Nashville.

Nationals pitcher Cole Henry struck out two over one inning for the team’s FCL affiliate.

Matt Brash, currently on the IL, was assigned to Tacoma for a rehab assignment.

Other notes

Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander was removed from his start after one inning due to arm tightness.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Francisco Lindor is still far removed from potentially returning to MLB action anytime soon. He’s not expected to be cleared to participate in baseball activities in the immediate future as he recovers from a calf strain.

Reds pitcher Hunter Greene will throw a bullpen session on May 26. He’s been out since the spring due to elbow surgery recovery (h/t Fox 19).
