May 24 saw several notables embark on rehab outings, including two key pieces for the Astros. However, the big injury news of the day came out of Toronto, as two members of the Blue Jays went down against the Pirates.

Cease & Guerrero Jr. depart early

Tough day for the Blue Jays. Two players left the game on May 24, one of whom was starting pitcher Dylan Cease. Cease was removed with left hamstring discomfort, and is penciled for an MRI per the team.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left after he was hit by a pitch on his right elbow. X-rays came back negative.

Manager John Schneider indicated on the 24th that Guerrero Jr. could play against the Marlins on May 25.

Soto out

Mets outfielder Juan Soto was held out of the team’s lineup on May 24, although he was penciled into the original one released.

Per the team, Soto was scratched because of an illness.

IL moves

The Cubs placed pitcher Edward Cabrera, who departed his last start with a blister, on the 15-day IL with said blister injury. It’s retroactive to May 21.

Tigers pitcher Brant Hurter was placed on the 15-day IL with lumbar spine inflammation.

The Rays put outfielder Jonny DeLuca on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

Nationals pitcher Jake Irvin was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain.

Rangers pitcher Cole Winn was placed on the IL with right arm fatigue.

Rehab assignments

The Astros had three rehabbers with Double-A Corpus Christi. Outfielder Joey Loperfido went 0-2 with two strikeouts. Josh Hader tossed a scoreless inning, while Hunter Brown struck out five over two innings (35 pitches).

Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner struck out five over five innings (67 pitches) with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Other notes

Rangers shortstop Corey Seager won’t be evaluated for another week (h/t Dallas Morning News).

Yordan Alvarez (back, planned day off), Max Muncy (wrist), Nolan Schanuel (calf), and Josh Jung (shoulder) did not go on May 24.
