It’s time to take a look at some new options on the waiver wire in 2026 fantasy baseball, as Week 9 approaches. Two hot-hitting infielders headline the list, as well as a rookie who fantasy players should not give up on. Plus, a catcher to help out with all the injuries going around in the league.

Best Week 9 hitters to target

Three weeks ago, we told you to pick up Travis Bazzana for several reasons. And, he makes the list again this week.

Bazzana’s been dropped in a lot of leagues — a -16% ownership change in Yahoo! leagues — over the last week. It’s understandable, as while Bazzana continues to pick up hits, not all of them have been loud contact. But on May 24, he picked up three hits, plus his third home run of 2026.

Don’t give up on talent.

Bryson Stott, a favorite of ours this year, is on what may very well be his best run of 2026, yet. Stott picked up two hits on May 24, extending his streak to seven games. During that stretch, Stott also picked up two home runs and seven RBI.

The catcher’s position has taken a beating this year, as Agustin Ramirez was demoted earlier this month, and Cal Raleigh, Ryan Jeffers, and Drake Baldwin are all on the IL. So, how about Gabriel Moreno, who had nine hits and stolen bases in his last seven games before May 24?

Ezequiel Tovar, who’s been one of the more disappointing players this season, had seven hits in his most recent eight games as of this writing. Some signs of life.

Lastly, we generally don’t put players owned in more than 60% of leagues. However, Luis Arraez is a worthwhile exception to that rule. Fourteen hits for Arraez between May 15 and 23, tied with Ketel Marte. Arraez also hit two home runs in that span.

Don’t expect the pop. However, the hit tool makes Arraez, who entered the day on May 24 batting .323, still a valuable asset.

Overview of Week 8

The hot wave for JJ Bleday has seemingly cooled for now, as the Reds outfielder hit .158 over five games this past week. We noted last week that Bleday still has some rough areas in his game, even though the effect of such has been lessened by his own effect this season.

Spencer Steer, meanwhile, picked up four runs scored and five total hits over the last week.

Luke Raley didn’t start three times this past week, even though he went 3-8 when he did hit. However, that’s the reality with someone like Raley, who’s very good against right-handed pitchers but someone that Seattle has opted to shield against same-sided pitching.

And then there’s A.J. Ewing, who hit his first skid as a Major League player this past week. A 4-19 stretch that saw him strike out 10 times, along with a 30% Whiff% that was unlike anything seen from him at the Minor League level.

It’s a different ballgame at the MLB level.
