It’s been a tough start for the Phillies in 2026, and it got a little bit more difficult on April 18. Not only did J.T. Realmuto have to leave the team’s game against the Braves early but Jhoan Duran also went on the injured list.
Phillies deal with more injuries
The Phillies will be down their closer for the next little while. Jhoan Duran was placed on the 15-day IL on the 18th with a left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to April 15.
J.T. Realmuto, meanwhile, left the Phillies’ game on April 18 with back tightness. He will be re-evaluated on the 19th (h/t New York Times).
Iglesias unavailable
Moving to the other side of the field in Philadelphia, the Braves used Robert Suarez to lock down Atlanta’s 3-1 victory over the Phillies on April 18. That is because Raisel Igleisas was unavailable.
The Braves’ closer wasn’t available due to shoulder discomfort, per the team (h/t MLB.com).
IL placements
The Mets officially placed Jorge Polanco on the 10-day IL, retroactive to April 15. Polanco is listed as on the IL with a right wrist contusion.
Prelander Berroa (White Sox) and Cade Horton (Cubs) were both shifted to the 60-day IL. Both are recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Rehab assignments
Mariners pitcher Bryce Miller went 1.2 IP (33 pitches) for Triple-A Tacoma on April 18. Miller gave up four hits and walked one. He struck out two for the Rainiers.
Twins third baseman Royce Lewis went 1-4 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A St. Paul. He was the team’s DH.
Orioles pitcher Dietrich Enns struck out two over one inning of scoreless relief for Triple-A Norfolk.
Also for the O’s, Jackson Holliday went 0-3 for High-A Frederick.
Cubs pitcher Jordan Wicks struck out two over three scoreless innings (37 pitches) for Triple-A Iowa. Wicks averaged 93 MPH on his fastball.
Other news
Brendan Donovan did not start on April 18. Donovan, who left the Mariners’ contest on April 17, is nursing hip tightness.
Willi Castro (Rockies) and Daulton Varsho (leg) also did not play in their respective teams’ games.
The Diamondbacks activated outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from the 10-day IL.
