Houston didn’t have closer Josh Hader available over the final six weeks of the 2025 season thanks to a shoulder strain. But thanks to a completely different injury, the Astros’ closer will be unavailable yet again as Houston gets ready to start the 2026 campaign.
Hader to start year on IL
Astros relief pitcher Josh Hader will start on the injured list with a biceps injury, per manager Joe Espada.
The biceps have been a problem for Hader in the spring. Hader stated earlier this month that he was behind in camp thanks to the injury and has slowly worked his way back since then. He did throw a bullpen session earlier this week.
Still, he’ll have to wait to make his return to a Major League game. Hader hasn’t pitched in a real game since August 8, 2025.
Updates on Brewers pitchers
We’ll start with the not-so-great news.
Pitcher Quinn Priester will meet a specialist on March 12 in Texas, as he looks to find a solution for his nagging wrist injury. Priester has yet to pitch in a Cactus League game this spring as he combats wrist soreness.
As for Logan Henderson, he will throw a bullpen session on March 12. Henderson was temporarily shelved thanks to elbow soreness (h/t MLB.com).
Miller had bullpen session scratched
Mariners pitcher Bryce Miller had his bullpen session scrapped early thanks to oblique discomfort. Miller threw a few warm-up pitches but felt the discomfort, ultimately leading to the end of the session.
Miller was told not to work through it if it felt uncomfortable.
Other notes
Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz will get back into game action on March 13, per manager Kevin Cash. Diaz has been dealing with a sore hand.
Spencer Torkelson is day-to-day with a forearm contusion, per the Tigers.
Per White Sox general manager Chris Getz, White Sox catcher Kyle Teel was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain and will likely be out for four to six weeks. Teel injured himself in Team Italy’s win over the United States on March 10.
