The injury bug has hit the Orioles hard during February. Not only will the O’s be without Jackson Holliday to start the year but also Jordan Westburg. Westburg suffered a ligament tear in his right elbow, which will force the infielder to start the 2026 season on the injured list.
Westburg out until at least May
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias announced that infielder Jordan Westburg has a partially torn UCL in his right elbow. It’s an injury that’ll keep Westburg out at least through the month of May.
Westburg had multiple IL stints last season, one that saw him only accrue 352 plate appearances. A hamstring strain sidelined him early on in the year. Then, in August, Westburg missed a month with a right ankle sprain.
The Orioles were already going to be down one infielder heading into Opening Day 2026. Jackson Holliday suffered a hamate bone fracture early on in camp.
Lopez officially done for 2026
The Twins announced that pitcher Pablo Lopez will have UCL reconstruction surgery on February 25, which will officially end his 2026 season.
Lopez was confirmed to have a torn UCL in his elbow this past week. That news made it highly possible that he would need season-ending surgery to address the injury.
Hader progressing
Per Astros manager Joe Espada, reliever Josh Hader continues to play catch as he works his way back from biceps inflammation.
As noted earlier this month, Hader stated he was behind in Spring Training because of the aforementioned biceps injury.
Other news
Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole faced hitters in live action for the first time this spring. Cole touched 97 MPH in the outing.
Per the Tampa Bay Times, Rays reliever Edwin Uceta underwent an MRI earlier this week for his shoulder.
