The Yankees provided more clarity on when Aaron Judge’s fractured rib will be re-examined and re-imaged on July 9, which led the injury news for the day. Additionally, updates on Giancarlo Stanton & Mark Vientos.
Yanks provide updates on injured sluggers
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman provided updates on both Aaron Judge & Giancarlo Stanton, both of whom are currently on the IL.
Starting with Judge, Cashman indicated that the reigning AL MVP will undergo imaging on his fractured rib during the All-Star break. This falls roughly in line with the four-to-six week timeline that was given to him back in early June.
As for Stanton, he was dealing with a new calf injury, which was the setback that was mentioned several days ago by the Yankees’ brass. Stanton just recently resumed running.
Vientos headed to IL
While it won’t be official until July 10, Mets infielder Mark Vientos will be placed on the injured list with a fractured hand.
Vientos’ hand injury occurred after he was hit by a pitch in the Mets’ finale versus the Royals.
IL moves
Marlins outfielder Owen Caissie was placed on the 10-day IL with a right calf strain. Additionally, reliever John King went on the IL with a left lateral ankle sprain.
The Red Sox placed 2026 All-Star Ranger Suarez on the 15-day IL with a left groin strain, retroactive to July 6.
Twins pitcher Connor Prielipp was placed on the 15-day IL with a left middle finger blister.
Guardians reliever Tim Herrin went on the 15-day IL with a left elbow contusion.
Phillies pitcher Tanner Banks went on the 15-day IL with a left forearm strain.
Nationals pitcher Brad Lord went on the 15-day IL with left side tightness.
Other notes
A’s infielder Zack Gelof left on July 9 with a right knee injury.
Brewers pitcher Kyle Harrison indicated that he’s been dealing with soreness outside his elbow for several weeks (h/t MLB.com).
White Sox 1B Munetaka Murakami is expected to be activated on July 10.
Meanwhile, in Kansas City, Vinnie Pasquantino could also be activated as early as the 10th, per manager Matt Quatraro.
Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki was removed from the team’s game against the Orioles due to cramping.
Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler (hand) and Reds infielder Matt McLain (calf) did not play on the 9th.
