There was an update on Aaron Judge from the Yankees on the last day of June, although not exactly the best one. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays were without Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on June 30 thanks to a back issue.
Judge not close to re-imaging
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Aaron Judge is still several weeks away before his fractured rib can be re-evaluated.
It’s a notable update, as Boone stated during the team’s series in Boston that he did not have an exact timetable for when that re-evaluation could occur. In early June, the Yankees stated that it was supposed to happen in four to six weeks.
Guerrero Jr. scratched
Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was scratched on June 30 due to back tightness.
Manager John Schneider indicated that the move was done so that Guerrero Jr. wouldn’t be set back after he experienced tightness while swinging before the game against the Mets. For now, Guerrero Jr. could be back on July 1.
Seager removed
Corey Seager was lifted before he took an at-bat against the Guardians due to back discomfort.
Seager stated after the game that his back flared up during warm-ups, hence why he didn’t want to do anything “stupid.”
IL moves
As expected, the Astros placed infielder Jeremy Pena on the injured list with a left calf strain.
Reds outfielder Dane Myers was placed on the 10-day IL with a left shoulder contusion.
Marlins reliever Anthony Bender was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shin stress reaction.
Rehab assignments
The Mets had two players on rehab assignments with Triple-A Syracuse. Luis Robert Jr. started his assignment and went 1-2 with a walk. Jorge Polanco, who continued his own, went 0-3 as the starting DH for Syracuse.
As for the Tampa Bay Rays, Jake Fraley and Gavin Lux were also in Triple-A on rehab assignments. Fraley went 1-2 with an RBI, walk, and strikeout, while Lux went 0-4 with a strikeout.
Padres catcher Luis Campusano went 2-2 with a home run for Triple-A El Paso.
Astros 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. went 1-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
Braves pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver struck out four over three innings (41 pitches) for Low-A Augusta.
Astros pitcher Hayden Wesneski tossed three scoreless innings for the team’s FCL affiliate.
Other notes
Yankees 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. cleared concussion protocol but did not play on the 30th.
Giants third baseman Matt Chapman (abdomen) was lifted on the 30th.
Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. is not expected to return before the All-Star break, per manager Walt Weiss (h/t AJC).
Byron Buxton (hip) and Willy Adames (back) remained out.
