Given that it was a five-game day, the injury news was limited across Major League Baseball. However, there were plenty of players rehabbing in the Minors on July 23. And at the MLB level, the D-Backs did not have Ketel Marte available against the Cardinals.
Marte out versus Cardinals
Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte did not play during Arizona’s make-up game versus the Cardinals on July 23.
Marte was out due to back stiffness.
IL moves
The Blue Jays placed pitcher Patrick Corbin on the 15-day IL with a teres major strain, retroactive to July 22.
Additionally, Addison Barger (right elbow inflammation) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
Three rehabbers were in Triple-A Gwinnett for the Braves. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Ha-Seong Kim went 0-1 with two walks. AJ Smith-Shawver struck out five and allowed one unearned run over four innings (86 pitches).
Smith-Shawver topped out at 100 MPH and averaged 98 MPH during his start.
Mets pitcher Clay Holmes allowed three hits and walked two over 2.1 IP (51 pitches) for Triple-A Syracuse. He averaged 94 MPH on his sinker, and topped out overall at 94 MPH.
Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle went 2-4 with a strikeout for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez went 1-3 for the team’s FCL affiliate.
