Just days after the Orioles nearly swept the Rays, Baltimore is now in a tight spot after their fourth consecutive loss on August 20. That loss came at the hands of the Yankees, who picked up a convincing win off Kyle Bradish.
Yankees, Cole victorious
The Yankees won 6-1 on August 20, defeating the Orioles and handing Baltimore a three-game sweep before returning home for a matchup against Toronto.
New York scored three runs in the third, as Jose Caballero, Ben Rice, and Heliot Ramos all drove in runs. The O’s cut the Yankees’ lead to two in the fifth after Dylan Beavers hit a solo home run. But one inning later, Luis Garcia Jr. and Spencer Jones both hit solo home runs to put the game further out of reach for the Orioles.
Gerrit Cole struck out eight and allowed just one run. Ryan Yarbrough struck out four over three innings to pick up the non-traditional save.
Rangers win on deGrom’s big night
The Rangers won 2-0 against the Nationals in a game where Texas’ pitching staff allowed just one hit.
That hit came in the second courtesy of Brady House, one of the few times that Washington got baserunners on. Jacob deGrom was sharp, as he struck out 10 over six scoreless innings. And he made some history when he struck out Abimelec Ortiz in the first for his 2.000th career strikeout.
Not only did deGrom join the exclusive company, but he also reached that mark in near-record time. deGrom became the fastest right-hander to reach that marker in terms of games played, and second-fastest behind Randy Johnson.

Wild 9th inning in Cincy
The Cardinals defeated the Reds 10-9 after what was, arguably, one of the wildest ninth innings of 2026.
Losing 5-4 and down to their final strike, JJ Wetherholt of the Cardinals hit a fly ball off a high fastball that Dane Myers could not catch, hitting his glove and bringing home the two runners who were on base. St. Louis wound up scoring four more to make it 10-5.
The Reds weren’t done, though; Eugenio Suarez drove in one on a single, and Sal Stewart drove in two off Riley O’Brien with a single to make it 10-8. O’Brien, enlisted to close out the game, wound up walking Tyler Stephenson to put the Reds within one. However, Matt McLain lined out to Jordan Walker, ending the Reds’ comeback bid.
