This year’s crop of free agent outfielders is top-heavy, thanks to two big names atop the list. However, the list aside from those two includes several former All-Stars, plus a hero from the 2025 MLB Postseason. Here’s our list of the best outfielders available this winter.

Best outfielders available this winter

  1. Ramon Laureano
  2. Tyrone Taylor
  3. Trent Grisham
  4. Daulton Varsho
  5. Taylor Ward
  6. George Springer
  7. Luis Robert Jr.
  8. Ian Happ
  9. Seiya Suzuki
  10. Randy Arozarena

Generally speaking, this is not the strongest crop of outfielders. However, there are two very notable names at the top of the list: Seiya Suzuki and Randy Arozarena.

Both Arozarena and Suzuki were two of 34 players last season with at least 50 extra-base hits and a walk rate of at least 10%. Not a shock; those two were given qualifying offers by their respective clubs, making the Cubs and Mariners eligible for MLB Draft compensation.

Suzuki had his moments in the field over his tenure as a Cub. But he was certainly worth the five-year deal given to him just after the lockout in 2021-22. Four consecutive seasons with 20+ home runs and an OPS above .800, plus a career-best 103 RBI in 2025, a season in which he benefitted greatly from the protection (Michael Busch, Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong) around him.

As for Arozarena, he chose a great time to have a career season. With the Mariners, the 31-year-old belted 26 home runs, stole 26 bases, and posted a career-best .865 OPS. An all-around corner infielder who can hit, run, and field his position, he should do fairly well in free agency.

Back to the Cubs, three players from Chicago populate this list. One is Tyrone Taylor, who hit 11 home runs and 27 extra-base hits between the Mets and Cubs this past season. Fantastic defender and a force against left-handed pitching, although he’s been more of a platoon option over the years.

The other is Ian Happ, who hit 24 home runs and walked 81 times this season for the Cubs. Happ was once the key to the Cubs’ lineup in the early 2020s, working as a leadoff hitter thanks to his ability to hit and get on base. However, he slipped down the lineup in recent years and slashed .218/.326/.412 in 2026.

Still, there are a lot of positives with Happ. He’s a former Gold Glove winner in left (which does bolster his free agency fortunes), plus a solid all-around hitter — despite the low average, which means less and less in this day and age.

After Arozarena, Suzuki, and Happ, the list of free agent outfielders gets weaker.

Luis Robert Jr. has been battered by injuries over the years and has his flaws at the plate. But when healthy and surrounded by help around him in the lineup, he’s shown flashes of brilliance.

George Springer was a key reason why the Blue Jays made the 2025 World Series. However, he’s coming off his age-36 season, barely played the field in recent years, and missed time due to injury in 2026. Still, he recorded 40 extra-base hits this past year.

Taylor Ward looked prime to do well in this year’s free agent market one year ago. But after 61 home runs between 2024 and 2025, Ward finished with the 15th-lowest HR% (1.2%) in the Majors among hitters with 375+ plate appearances in 2026. What does help is the 16.3% that ranked fifth-best in the Majors this season.

Daulton Varsho and Ramon Laureano both battled injuries in 2026. However, both have pop. So does Trent Grisham, who hit 18 more home runs in 2026. Grisham hit 34 in 2025, and wound up taking a one-year qualifying offer from the Yankees last November.
